Piedmont Plug

Close the acoustic weak point at the curtain wall.

The Piedmont Plug treats the junction where interior partitions meet exposed curtain wall mullions to address unwanted sound transfer between rooms.

Sound finds the weak point.

Glass curtain wall systems create a difficult acoustical condition when an interior partition terminates at an exposed mullion. A well-built wall can still lose privacy and acoustic performance at that final junction.

Conceptual Sound Flanking Path Top-down view of an untreated curtain wall junction. Light blue glazing meets a dark navy mullion. An interior partition terminates against the room-side face of the mullion. A dashed coral arrow indicates sound bypassing the partition termination via the mullion junction, from one side of the partition to the other, rather than passing through the partition. The arrow is schematic, not a measured propagation route. Installed Piedmont Plugs are not shown. The partition-to-mullion junction

The Piedmont Plug is designed for the partition-to-mullion junction. Used with acoustical sealant at the partition-to-mullion gap, the system follows the mullion vertically and integrates into the finished space.

  • Designed specifically for the curtain wall mullion condition.
  • Available as a fabric-covered system, with M-Series aluminum details also available.
  • Suitable for new construction and existing-space sound transfer corrections.

Continuous treatment along the mullion

The system is installed continuously along the height of the mullion after the partition-to-mullion gaps are sealed. Product thickness and configuration are selected for the project condition, supported by measuring, installation and technical documentation.
